My Regular Playing Partners
Since they will often feature in my golf notes, I ought to say a little of my regular playing partners.

L to R Jonathan, June, Harry Stobbs
Harry Stobbs
Because of an unfortunate incident many years ago Harry believes that if you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt.
He is my Brother in Law of the last 30 years. About the time I ceased to be a partner of his sister, Harry suggested I join Heworth and become his regular playing partner, because his two previous partners had died.
Being a complete Billy No Mates, it seemed an attractive offer and I joined Heworth near the end of the 2002 season. I'm very glad I did ..so far.
Harry has been playing golf regularly for about 25 years and he has achieved what he, initially, set out to achieve...be a bandit long enough to win a competition and get his name on the board..then get down to single figures. He was down to 8 but has drifted up to 9.
But is he happy?
Is he buggery!
He has a natural "around the body" swing (flattish)
which is very effective, and very consistent. He also has about 500 little gimics which he uses on a rotation basis, a different one each game, and this helps......me.
Without all this fannying about Harry would be too consistent and I would never win his £1. I've often said to him "if it aint broke, don't fix it"
but then, I remember Harry's in the Motor Trade. He tinkers for a living
In reality, Harry likes studying swing techniques, and this is a major part of his enjoyment of golf...as is his pursuit of the latest technology in golf clubs to the extent that he has been taken on by Adrian and Warren as a golf club tester,( unpaid, of course, and he has to supply his own electricians tape ) See Golf Notes to see how often I pay Harry £1
June Stobbs
June, being Harry's wife, is my Sister in Law and she has been playing golf for about 5 years and currently plays off 25. Harry taught her to play golf and continues to teach her... on every shot... in every game... even when, I suspect, June doesn't want to be taught.
June is a bit like Ronnie Corbitt, except prettier...
obviously. I think it's her little legs scurrying to the hole after a sucessful putt.
Jonathan Stobbs
Being Harry and June's son, Jonathan is my nephew.
I have a pro golfer nephew in Canada and Jona is my other one, except he's not a pro ...and he's not in Canada. Jona is one of a bunch that every Golf Club has..the sons of members who start playing off 25 at the beginning of the Summer Holidays and 6 weeks later they're in single figures. He now plays off 7 and hits the ball further than a Chronicle Trip. Don't play as much with Jonathan now as, apparently, he needs to earn a living and he's fond of partying.
